"Second Solid Symposium: Developing Decentralized Applications" from 2 to 3 May 2024 in Leuven, Belgium

"Social Linked Data" enables a decentralized web architecture and puts control over data back into the hands of the users through the technologies used. The second Solid Symposium will take place on May 2 and 3, 2024 in Leuven. It offers early adopters from research, business, administration and the web community a forum to discuss the current state of the art in Solid technology, learn about best practices and exchange ideas for further developments.

Solid: Infrastructure of the future for data portability and data sovereignty

Solid stands for "Social Linked Data" and is a family of technologies that has been developed to put control of data back into the hands of users – just as the European Parliament envisages for Europe's strategic autonomy. The solid architecture separates data, identity and applications and enables users to store their data securely online. Anyone who manages their data using Solid controls access to their data via identities that are managed by different identity providers. Applications access and use the data stored under the user’s control. Solid therefore has the potential to revolutionize the way we handle personal data and create a more transparent and controlled data economy. Solid is suitable for personal use as well as for use in companies.

Solid Symposium 2024: Further developing decentralized applications

The first Solid Symposium took place in Nuremberg in 2023, under the leadership of Prof. Dr. Andreas Harth, Chair of Technical Information Systems at Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg, and head of the "Data Spaces and IoT Solutions" department at the Center for Applied Research on Supply Chain Services at Fraunhofer IIS: "The symposium brings the Solid community together and opens up the topic to a wider audience: the concept worked so well in 2023 that the series is now being continued in Belgium. Belgium is a leader in solid research and practical application, so we are already looking forward to many exciting impulses and new perspectives," says Prof. Harth, who is also a member of the scientific committee this year.

In Leuven, participants can expect not only keynotes from renowned Solid experts, but also scientific poster sessions, developer tutorials on Solid protocols and applications, and practice-relevant panels on data protection, Solid in healthcare, management and control of decentralized systems and personal data spaces.

The symposium offers the opportunity to get to know Solid in depth as the infrastructure of the future for data portability and data sovereignty and to exchange ideas with experts from the Solid community.
