Supply Chain Services – success an added value thanks to data

For over 20 years, Fraunhofer SCS has dealt with the issue of how value creation can be increased: for example with more efficient networks and processes, tailor-made products and services, or new business models. In the modern world, so many dependencies and networks are to be taken into account, that only solutions that take a universal approach can be successful. This holistic view requires knowledge of the market, the network, the internal processes, the customers, but also the technological possibilities. Fraunhofer SCS offers the scientific expertise needed, in combination with the appropriate infrastructure.


  • 1995: Foundation and management of the »Fraunhofer-Anwendungszentrums für Verkehrslogistik und Kommunikationstechnik AVK« by Prof. Peter Klaus
  • 2002: Restructuring into the Fraunhofer Center for Applied Research on Technologies for the Logistics Service Industries ATL.
  • 2008: Foundation of the Fraunhofer Center for Intelligent Objects ZIO to provide technology-based services.
  • 2009: Renamed to Fraunhofer Center for Applied Research on Supply Chain Services SCS
  • 2010: Foundation of Service Factory Nuremberg
  • 2014: Foundation of the Fraunhofer Research Group »Business Models Bamberg«
  • 2015: SCS celebrates its 20th anniversary
  • 2016: Prof. Dr. Alexander Pflaum takes over management of the Center for Applied Research
