Resources such as energy, water and recyclable materials, as well as people and data, are valuable assets. Using them sparingly makes ecological, social and economic sense. In the research focus area ‘Intelligent Resource Management’, we are developing the appropriate AI-based algorithms for this. The aim is to actively reduce the consumption of finite, natural and digital resources by sustainably optimising their use.
To achieve this, we use state-of-the-art mathematical, statistical and machine learning methods. They can be used to recognise patterns, make predictions and calculate optimal control strategies and recommendations for action. In this way, existing value creation systems are organised efficiently and stably with AI and our most valuable resources are conserved at the same time: for maximum economic efficiency and resilience with minimal impact on the environment and people.
